Govt Jobs For CA, Chartered Accountancy is one of the most coveted degrees in India. Be it due to the amount of hard work or the low pass percentage, CA degree has always been well respected.

Right after school, one can enroll for the CA foundation. Once the CA foundation gets cleared, the next step on the ladder is clearing CA Intermediate. ICAI campus placement always has good opportunities for CA freshers. But as far as Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) are concerned, only a few really participate in the campus. They have their own recruitment procedures which we will be covering in further points.  Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, NMDC and BPCL among others almost always conduct recruitment drive in campus placement held by ICAI. Certain companies conduct both group discussions and personal interviews while some might simply go for personal interviews.

Banking Sector Govt Jobs



Coming to banks, there are various openings for CA in this sector. You might have seen many of your friends working as Credit Manager or Deputy Manager or Forex Manager in banks. They also recruit experienced Chartered Accountants at the senior level posts. If one wants to go for Investment Banking, then he should qualify CFA along with CA.

In other cases, your work would depend upon the post. Having good exposure to bank audits during articleship would always help and is recommended. Since most of the tasks are getting automated, having a good grasp of IT skills would serve you well. Well, you would always have the option to clear IBPS and apply for a bank job.

Public Sector Undertakings (PSU)

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Coal India Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation, Gas Authority of India Limited offer lucrative packages to CA freshers. If you have scored around 60% marks in CA final, you stand a great chance of getting into one of these PSUs through campus placement.

They also have their prescribed recruitment procedures whereby they issue notification regarding job opening and criteria of job interview including group discussion. BPCL, IRCTC, BSNL, MTNL, ITDC, SCI, etc also provide good packages and are worth a try.

Reserve Bank of India Govt Jobs



RBI also welcomes Chartered Accountants for various positions. One can get into RBI by applying for RBI Assistant and Grade B officer exams. You don’t really get any advantage over others in this case. But if the job description specifically demands the candidate to be a specialist, then having a CA degree is advantageous.

Income Tax Officer Govt Jobs

Having a CA degree is not enough to become an Income Tax officer. You need to get through the civil service exam known as the IRS exam and clear all rounds of interviews. After around 15 years of practice as a Chartered Accountant, one can become Accounting Member in the Income Tax Administrative Tribunal (ITAT) after fulfilling prescribed conditions.

Securities and Exchange Board of India

One of the most reputed institutions in India, SEBI also conducts recruitment drive for Grade A level officers where Chartered Accountancy degree is also considered in the general stream. The candidate needs to clear a competitive exam held by SEBI. This job is very lucrative in terms of salary package and perks like medical allowances, leave travel concession, education allowance, etc. Since the benefits are huge and there is no gain without pain, one needs to go through the three-phased exams.

This involves the Written exam having four sections involving Quantitative, Reasoning, English and Securities market. The second phase is again a written exam having a securities market and English to test. If you are lucky enough to get shortlisted, you enter the third phase which is personal interview round.

District Health Society or National Rural Health Mission

CA freshers can also apply for the job in NRHM as budget and finance officers. All you need to do is clear the exams as prescribed and the job is yours.

Life Insurance Corporation (LIC)




We all know LIC but somehow we subconsciously assume it to be limited to the boring jobs like insurance agents. Look every organization has a finance department. And therefore what’s better than appointing a Chartered Accountant for the role.

Other Opportunities

CA fresher can also apply for various Chartered Accountant job openings in the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas, so on and so forth. One can even try for public units like the Electricity Board, Airport Authority of India. You just need to be aware and grab the opportunity as soon as it comes into your basket.

The salary in all the above categories would vary according to the post. But the government job is always appreciated for its job security and less hardship in terms of working hours. We know how difficult ride it has been from the CA foundation to the CA final.
